Friends of Long Beach Animals

Sassy is now at Wiskers. Sassy is an older cat but with many years left. She and her brother were abandoned at the shelter by their owners. Her brother was adopted but Sassy was left behind. FOLBA rescued Sassy to seek a permanent, loving home. Sassy is friendly and sweet, a real beauty with her long fur. She doesn't really care to live with other cats but maybe just one will do. Sassy is up to date on shots, tested for disease, spayed and micro-chipped.

The Companion Animal Village at 7700 E. Spring St., Long Beach, has many wonderful pets for adoption. These animals have been abandoned, thrown away, subjected to cruelty, neglected and made homeless because of irresponsible owners and careless over-breeding through NO FAULT OF THEIR OWN. Pets that go to their new homes are spayed/neutered, have all their vaccinations and are micro-chipped. What a deal!

Friends of Long Beach Animals recommends.....when you are at the Village looking for your new best friend, please be sure to check out the stray cats and dogs at Animal Control that might not be available yet. If their owners are not located, then these strays also will need homes.

Mission Statement:

Friends of Long Beach Animals (FOLBA) is dedicated in its promotion of the humane treatment and care of cats, dogs and all other animals through the education of the public as to pet owner responsibilities within the Cities of Long Beach and Signal Hill, California. Friends of Long Beach Animals supports laws and legislation that make abuse of animals a serious crime.

		The organization has no employees and is run entirely by volunteers.
		Dues, donations, fundraising income, grants, gifts and bequests are expended to assist in the promotion and subsidizing of spaying and neutering of animals.
		Friends developed an outreach program in 1999 called SNIP (Spay/Neuter Incentive Program) to diminish the pet over-population problem by targeting low-income, high-volume, pet over-populated areas, and by using clinics offering the lowest spay and neuter costs, to maximize program effectiveness.
		Friends is working toward zero pet population growth. SNIP is designed to prevent the birth of unwanted animals.
		In the year 2000, Friends developed humane education classes and ran them in local parks. In 2001, these classes were approved by and are currently held in the Long Beach Unified School District, at no cost to the schools.
		Additionally, Friends pays certain veterinarian bills for stray animals in the care of Long Beach Animal Control on a case-by-case basis.

Meet Tippy, the new staff mascot of Long Beach Animal Control. Tippy is being held by Lt. Michelle Quigley. What the photo doesn't show is Tippy's uniqueness of having only three legs. She is unaware of her situation and it doesn't slow her down one bit. Friends of Long Beach Animals is proud to be Tippy's sponsor for any of her special needs.

Long Beach, MS along its main road is still devastated as a result of the Katrina hurricane. Population was 17,000. Friends of Long Beach Animals (FOLBA) campaigned for donations, committing a 100% pass-through distributing $16,826 to several organizations doing good rescue work or vet care for the Katrina animals.

FOLBA adopted Long Beach Animal Control, MS and sent $2,500. FOLBA has now sent the balance of $1,334.06 in its Katrina fund to Long Beach, MS to buy more cages, food, medical supplies, an air-conditioning hook-up and insulation.

Shirley Vaughan and Nona Daly present pet oxygen recovery masks to County Fire Station #60 in Signal Hill - July 2004. The project was paid for through community donations.

On August 4, 21 sets of masks were given to Long Beach Fire Stations.
