PAST EVENTS:
May 18, 2011 our yearly Long Beach Playhouse Event was held with the animals being the winners from our ticket sales and Silent Auction. We thank all the businesses who donated gift certificates and items as well as our loyal members. The “Hero To Animals” award for 2010 went to Nona Daly. Nona has worked tirelessly on Friends spay and neuter programs as well as our fundraisers. She has been a valuable member to the Long Beach and Signal Hill communities. Nona’s work alone has prevented hundreds to thousands of animals from being born without homes saving them from cruelty and being added to the animal shelter overload. FOLBA is proud to have Nona Daly as our “Hero to Animals” as well as the animals who can’t speak for themselves.

Honored at this even was Dr. Loren Eslinger:

Friends of Long Beach Animals names Dr Loren Eslinger, DVM, ABVP, 2009 Hero to Animals
Dr. Eslinger has been chosen as our Hero to Animals 2009 because of her many years of dedicated service to the animals of Long Beach and Signal Hill. In approximately 1992, when the Animal Shelter was still located on Willow Street, Dr. Eslinger organized the veterinarian community to take turns coming to Long Beach Animal Control on a daily basis to administer rabies vaccinations and do health checks on animals in their care. California State Law required all pets over 4 months of age to have a rabies vaccination and, up until that time, many owners who had lost a pet would have to wait a couple of days for the vaccines before taking them home. Dr. E. served on the Long Beach Board of Health as the city’s veterinarian for some time and also owned a very successful veterinary practice, Belmont Shore Animal Hospital for many years. In 2008, when Long Beach Animal Care Services faced some exceptional challenges, Dr. E stepped forward to handle their veterinary needs. Her outstanding veterinary skills, along with her compassion for the animals and her love of Long Beach make it clear to us that has earned the title of Hero to Animals.
